Our Values

-Flexibility
-Adaptability
-Future mindset
-Global perspective

Capitol Learning Academy is the first school to apply the Learning for Our Future (LFOF) model, which teaches students how to be adaptable to and ready for the unknown future that lies ahead.

It will begin with one primary school grade, expanding in both directions each year until the school is a PK-6 institute, with a longer term possibilities for PK-12. It will utilize a unique and specifically designed curriculum, based on the belief that we need to focus on teaching students flexibility, adaptability, and interpersonal skills, in order to equip them to make use of the tools and careers that will be available to them in the future, which we may not have heard of today.

Students will be provided with a wealth of tools and strategies, both technology-based and not, and will be asked to solve different problems or scenarios throughout their lessons. Students will learn to make use of a variety of tools, even if they are different from one day to the next, how to work in groups and independently, discuss their solutions with one another and see different perspectives, thus learning from one another, and how to be adaptable to sudden changes in situation, scenario, or possible outcomes.

The school will be project-based, student-centered learning, where core subject area knowledge (reading, writing, math, etc) will be increasingly learned by utility within projects, rather than during a set “foundational learning” time. The curriculum will be based on a continuum of interpersonal skills, inquiry skills, and resourcefulness. This building will be accessible to the community in the evenings in order to provide learning opportunities and buy-in for older and less likely to be exposed community members and generations.

Capitol Learning Academy will be located in an urban area of a developed city, where there is a pattern of socioeconomic segregation. Studies increasingly show that project-based, individualized education opportunities allow for a more equal playing field in terms of educational achievement, and having the opportunity to attend just such a school, within commuting distance, will allow for low income students to be positioned for equal opportunities in the future work force. Class sizes will be flexible, but remain at a maximum of 18 students in one learning space at a time. Tuition will be determined at a rate to be accessible to each family's circumstance, creating an indexed tuition that allows each family to contribute as valued members of CLA's community. Capitol Learning Academy aims to provide an accessible education for everyone’s future. It is understood that this goal will only be attained with outside financial assistance. The local business community will be approached and asked to be actively engaged.

Unique Technology Opportunity

One of the goals of Capitol Learning Academy is to expose students to a variety of technology tools available, both widely circulated and newly created.

It is to the benefit of the school to create a strong partnership with innovative technology companies.

Products created will be tested by and discussed with the consumers that they will be meant for- today’s youth, tomorrow’s workforce. Students will be given the opportunity to discover the possibilities of new technologies, and give feedback to developers both in terms of educational utility and general lifestyle possibilities. In exchange, the technology companies will be able to receive this frequent and timely feedback on products, and become involved in the future of education, to create the most desirable types of citizens for our future economy.

Testimonial

"Engaging and motivating volunteers is a critical aspect of running a school, because they are essential components to building a sense of community. Alex delivers. Alex is not just a good recruiter, but a team builder, who encourages volunteers to take risks and not just complete mundane tasks.

Simply, Alex is a wonderful role model for young children. She gets down to the level of kids and “speaks” their language or just plays like they do. She’s never loud, yet firm, and provides instruction through experience, not mere expertise.

We wish Alex all the best in her new role. We know that the children will benefit and we wholeheartedly support her and the new school."

"...we highly recommend Ms. Roosenburg to anyone who is looking for an intelligent, experienced, solution-oriented and effective teaching professional with positive attitude. We are very grateful to Alex for all her help and care, which made our son’s school experience very enjoyable."

"Ms. Roosenburg has my utmost respect and admiration, and were I in a position to be able to recruit her for a leadership role, I would do so with great enthusiasm."
