Achieving Milestones

Starting something from scratch is a big deal. Whether it's for cooking, art or business, anybody that makes something from nothing should be celebrated and deserves to feel accomplished. With the creation of a new school, it is sometimes incredibly overwhelming, the tasks are endless, and it's easy to be bogged down in the details of it all, forgetting that it's a really big deal that you're doing this great thing!

To take a moment and celebrate, Capitol Learning Academy has hit some pretty major milestones in the past few months. Specifically, we:

*Hosted 2 events with new students/families, testing out our theories of learning and refining our methods;

*Planned 2 more events with a more specific focus on coding skills, selling out for the first (on August 5!) within 24 hours of opening the signups!

*Were selected for the 4.0Schools Tiny Fellowship! This entails MBA-style coursework, a 3-day intensive workshop at the 4.0 Headquarters, on-demand coaching for up to 12 months, and up to $10K of funding for pre-launch events this year;

*Incorporated Capitol Learning Academy;

*Registered as an Employer;

*Opened our business bank account;

*Began the process of filing as a 501(c)(3);

*Received our first donation-in-kind, with a matching donation from a DC Law Firm (Banner & Witcoff, Ltd.). to help fund technology hardware for our coding events, and future camp experiences we will be hosting.

*Brought on multiple volunteers, who are donating time and expertise to our events, website, marketing, admissions process decisions, financial decisions, etc.

These milestones were all so important to not only our success as an early days school, but also to motivate the continued progress. People, organizations and banks are recognizing what we at Capitol Learning Academy are doing, and are willing to get behind the efforts and show their support in various forms. This support is invaluable, and helps to make a long and scary process that much more manageable. Here's to continued growth, milestones, and celebrating them along the way.
